What's the difference between SEO and pay-per-click (PPC)?

SEO is an organic ranking method that is constantly tweaked and monitored for long-term results. Pay-per-click advertising allows users to bid on certain keywords. When they have successfully won a key phrase, an ad is placed at the top of search results for their website, appearing when users search that specific term. When users choose to click on this ad, the business is charged the amount set in the initial bid.

What is the Benchmark Report?

Once you have approved your keywords, your account manager will send you a Benchmark Report from our online system. That report will detail where your website is currently ranking for the confirmed keywords. Every month thereafter, you will receive this report on that day from the online portal. You will be able to log into the portal when you receive your Benchmark Report, via an email. The email will contain your personalised login details.

How do search engines rank websites?

These nifty platforms use highly comprehensive algorithms to figure out which websites are the most relevant to the search that has been conducted. Google examines hundreds of different ranking factors and metrics in order to rank websites. These include onsite elements (such as the website itself), and the links pointing to a website.

What about Bing and Yahoo?

Google estimates it represents approximately 93% of searches conducted daily, Google's influence is not one to be ignored. With these statistics in mind, our services are tailored to primarily cater for this platform.

How long till I start seeing some results? When can I expect to see results? How long till you get my website to the top/page 1?

It depends on various factors.
- The authority of a website assists it to rise in the rankings, and this includes onsite factors, as well as trust and reputation of a domain, based on authoritative backlinks.

- he time frame to rank keyword phrases will be dependent on the competition and the resources required, whilst remaining within Google's guidelines.

As stated above, Google has hundreds of ranking factors it takes into account when assessing the trust of a particular website to determine where it should rank in search results.

Why does my report look different to search results?

Every time you conduct a search, it is automatically personalised by Google. Your friend or colleague might see a completely different search for the same key phrases, depending on where they are searching from. Essentially, you and another person will never see the exact same search results, especially when browsing history is taken into account. It's important to remember this when you take a look at your report.

What can we do to speed up the results?

As a business, other avenues - such as pay-per-click and AdWords - may provide quicker and faster results. In addition, obtaining links from other websites within your networks may positively influence your rankings. These include:
- Partner websites, associations, organisations, clubs, events you attended/sponsored, charities, etc;
- When you write a review about the above groups, it can be a great opportunity to obtain a link, i.e. post the article on their site and get a link back to your own.

When can I expect my Ranking Report?

Your Ranking Report is sent to you monthly, after your Benchmark report. The report tracks your SEO campaign's progress.

What if I want to change my key phrases?

The key phrases we select are based on assessing industry and competitive factors in the market, using SEO tools to assess search engine traffic estimates. We also take into account the strengths of your site, and the likelihood of achieving quick and qualified traffic.
We strive to provide a selection of keywords for short, medium and long-term goals — this, in turn, helps us to generate highly targeted and relevant traffic to you as quickly as possible. An aggressive strategy requires adequate resources, whilst remaining in Google Webmaster Guidelines. This will be dependent on the competition of your industry, authority of your domain and the investment in your online marketing campaign.

Can I get a link building report? How can I check what link building you’re doing?

The main reason why we don’t generate link reports (apart from it being intellectual property) is that links can take months to be indexed (or seen by Google). In other cases, they may not have been accepted by the webmaster instantly, or may have been accepted but not implemented immediately. There have been times where we think a link has been accepted, then the webmaster emails to let us know that, in order for the link to go live, they require a reciprocal link. For the above reasons, we judge the success of the campaign based on the rankings.

What causes rankings to fluctuate?

Firstly, check the rankings trend: is it a big drop in short period or overall trend?
Is it only a few phrases?
How many drops are there and are they only small?

Compare with rank reports from a few months ago, or since the start of campaign – remember SEO is a long-term process. Please note that there is such a thing as the Google Dance: the change in SERP (search engine ranking positions) caused by an update of the Google database or algorithm. Alternatively, a ranking can drop due to a Google index update when different data centres have different information. Sometimes this is a result of having indexed other sites on page one, but then seeing a bounce-back when Google next indexes your site and picks up more links.

Actions we can take include:
- Priority and increased focus on link building to target selected phrases;
- Get our tech team to do an onsite review to look at metas, content and keyword relevance (you are welcome to conduct this yourself if you are able).

Will the SEO I invest in last forever?

The most crucial thing to remember about SEO is the fact that it is never-ending. SEO is an ongoing process and, to be truly successful, constant monitoring and adjustments must be adhered to. Remember that there may always competitors looking to overtake you on search results, the minute you choose to stop SEO you give them a greater chance to do just that.
